Light and shadows

Brainstorm session 1 Brainstorm session 2

On behalf of KirstenLee and Dawny we want to thank everyone for the massive support, grand donations and wonderfull words we received in these last couple of weeks. It gives hope looking into the future and keep their heads up for the hard time to come. Their plans dealing with the current chalenges are still in progress, but with all your support it makes bearing with it a little less hard and keeps all of it better in perspective.

Alot of people have stepped forward to help, contribute and/or volunteer in a future plan for the Kirstensviewer-project. And not only the project, also for all the hard work that has been already done. But there might be some light on the horizon. Tho it is not official yet, there is some hope growing it will work out and benifit all of us. Details will come out in the coming weeks. Keep this website close to your mousepointer...

As a last enclosement, I want to make a broad statement on the viewers that are at this moment developed with the forked code of the latest Kirstensviewer-code. We want to emphasise that it is wonderfull. BUT, we can not and will not be responsible for the possible future damages these viewers might cause. As has always been our message, if official binaries are available, they can and will only be available through this domain or the official sourceforge-page.

Thank you all! And let's all hope for a good and healthy future!

Love, Jabba Aabye and the Team

It'd be nice to see the viewer come back to life.

I am very pleased and hopeful for what future developments may come. Thank you for keeping us updated and many will be watching for future developments. If there is anything more myself or others can do to offer support or assistance in any way please don't hesitate to ask. I wish you all continued health and well being. :)

Why not ask a job at Linden Labs?
you will be paid and can continue what you made

LL has no offices in the Netherlands that I am aware of. And moving to the US with a sick wife means no more health insurance (pre-existing condition = excluded from getting insurance in the US) and thus not worth it.

      • KVUser - September 24, 2011 at 2:20 Reply

As of 2010, uninsured adults with pre-existing conditions will be able to obtain health coverage through a new program for high risk pools that will expire once new insurance exchanges begin operating in 2014. Alternatively, health insurance with no physicals or health coverage provided by a spouse's employer can circumvent the 'pre-existing condition' bull-honkey.

mean having nothing compared to europeane free heal coverage in most country... lot of thing still have to be done in USA.

There is all kinds of talk about American medicine being one of the best in the world, but the sad fact is that while the technology is excellent health care coverage is one of the worst in the world which makes the technology nearly useless for millions of people since they do not have access to it.

I will keep this link and would love to keep using KV. I totally understand RL comes first and I along with I'm sure alot of others hope things improve for KL and Dawny.

I was delighted to know that there may be a chance this project will continue and I am already in the support group, (not sure there is any other groups) however although I cannot help financially I would like to say I am open to offering support, or even bug testing in order to keep what I believe to be the best viewer available and to continue into the future.

I miss KV, and would love to be part of a group to help keep it going and it makes me wish I even remotely understood the coding and things that go into it in order to be able to help more. Probably not the right place to ask this, but any recommendations on where to start, I would love to learn.

It may feel a bit pushy (I know I would here in the UK) but I'm sure if you gave an idea of the donations needed to keep the viewer going, it would encourage more people to donate. I'd certainly add to the pot if it meant keeping this great viewer alive.

Best wishes and hopes to Dawny.

I think the number bandied around was 25.000 per year (dollars I think, could have been euros). Nothing unreachable.

      • steelsnake - September 24, 2011 at 5:43 Reply

Actually, the number was $50k, according to this: nwn.blogs.com..

That still is nothing unreachable (or unreasonable) in my opinion. I make more than that in RL, with a probably similar job profile as KL.

The question is whether or not enough people would be willing to pay.

  1. scrappypatricie - September 24, 2011 at 9:17 Reply

I would gladly pay a monthly fee for this viewer, and do not think that is an unreasonable request!

  1. CougarSangria - September 24, 2011 at 19:11 Reply

My hope is that KV will return and until then I will continue to use the viewer as I believe it has the best quality as far as viewing inworld. I have tried them all. I am not adverse to paying a monthly fee to keep KV updated as well.

  1. Angel - September 25, 2011 at 16:19 Reply

As much as I would love to be able to, I just don't a) have the funds available b) a way of paying for it online.

I know there is probably only a small amount of people that are in this situation, but I would rather help in other ways, and if the viewer becomes subscription based then I wouldn't be able to use it.

I think the figures being said are not unreasonable, and I think donations are wonderful, but of course Jabba and others are more knowledgeable about the current situation than us, but maybe there is a way people can get on-board?, to help keep the viewer going, but then I would also not want to make KL or Dawny feel like the viewer is being taken from them.

After all lets face it without KL there would be no viewer.

    • steelsnake - September 26, 2011 at 5:28 Reply

I'd think the license on the viewer codebase would prohibit a subscription model.

      • Angel - September 27, 2011 at 12:35 Reply

Oh ok, I didn't know that. I am not up on the license stuff

I hope there can be some continuation with this viewer even if others have to step in :) I know Niran has taken some effort to release a V3 version himself

    • Angel - September 27, 2011 at 12:36 Reply

I hope it's not like the Linden V3, it's awful, but if it's a continuation of KV then awesome, but still it would be nice for it to be the next generation of KV, not a viewer based upon on KV.

Although I think Niran is cool, so will keep an eye on it.

      • Crel - September 28, 2011 at 23:15 Reply

Well, it is like V3 in the same sense that KV already is/was in the S21(9). Its a fork that has made only minor changes from what KL has already done.

Some of the best news I've had all week...

  1. KittyKins - September 30, 2011 at 10:15 Reply

How Do I download this viewer?

    • Angel - September 30, 2011 at 13:08 Reply

The viewer has been removed and discontinued right now. As the post discusses it may be restarted in the future. Also as someone else posted Niran has done a viewer which uses a lot of the KV stuff I believe

      niranv-sl.blogspot.com..

You can download it from the link above.

Once again I wish Dawny a speedy recovery and that the Kirsten Viewer will return to it's glory in the future

      • steelsnake - October 02, 2011 at 0:50 Reply

Might wanna add: Niran's build is Windows only. No Mac, no Linux.

  1. slaver0110 - October 07, 2011 at 2:10 Reply

I ran into Niran in Ahern last weekend, and from what he said, he seemed determined to continue work on his adaptation of the viewer. I've been testing it, and aside from a bug in the build/edit menu (which causes CTD) it seems more than usable, even though it doesn't seem to have the solid "feel" of KV. Being as stubborn as I am, I outright-refuse to use any other viewer, and I hope for the best with everyone's efforts. To Kirsten and Dawny, you still have my prayers.

  1. Niran - October 07, 2011 at 11:28 Reply

you could have told me , because i fixed that :) check the download page again

    • slaver0110 - October 08, 2011 at 2:01 Reply

No no, that was before the 'fix' release. All is well now.

I'll give you three hundred bucks if you make SL work with Nvidia 3D glasses. Cash in the mail, if you want. Tell me you started work on it and I'll send you a pair of their shutter glasses.

► Here's their 3D developer site with lotsa whitepapers, video tutorials, and mountains of code already written for you:

developer.nvidia.com.. ► Nvidia now supports OPENGL 4.2 and GLSL 4.20.

There's an SDK specific specially for OpenGL, and they're coming out with a major new version shortly. Here's the API for that:

    developer.nvidia.com..

You already do anaglyph; it should be simple to call the stereoscopic render functions instead. I'd do it myself if I wasn't burned out from systems programming in mainframe assembler.

WTF... Here, give me stereoscopic SL and I'll give you a naked pic:
